Stephanie Smith, Solicitor

Stephanie is a Solicitor with SKO. After qualifying she worked in a busy high street court practice before joining SKO in 2015. Stephanie is bilingual (French) and has worked in France. She also speaks German and Spanish.

Stephanie started her career as a sheriff court solicitor, where she appeared in court regularly. She has acted in a broad range of cases including divorce and financial provision cases, cohabitation claims and child law matters including contact, residence, relocation, adoption and public child law cases. She also has experience as an instructing solicitor in the Court of Session, where her work has included acting in the first Scottish application under Article 11 (7) of Brussels II revised.

As a bilingual French speaker Stephanie is able to assist clients for whom French is their first language. She has a particular interest in European law matters as they affect clients who find themselves before the Scottish courts, or for whom Scots law may be relevant. Stephanie is a member of the Franco-British Lawyers Society.

Stephanie is a pragmatic, straightforward and commercially minded solicitor. She has a robust court demeanour which is respectful and effective. Her outlook, experience and skills mean that she is equally at home working as lead solicitor in sheriff court matters, whether as principal agent or on an agency basis for other firms, or working in a team with others in SKO in more complex cases.

Stephanie is a member of the Family Law Association. She tutors on the undergraduate Family Law LLB course at the University of Edinburgh and is also a supervising solicitor at the University's Free Legal Advice Centre.
