Gabby graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a First Class degree in Law (with Honours) and a Distinction in the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice. She studied Family Law and Issues in Child Law at honours level.
Gabby is currently a research assistant to the author of the 8th Edition of Thomson on Family Law in Scotland, a core family law text, used by academics and professionals alike. Her research focus concerns parental rights and responsibilities, and section 11 orders under the Children (Scotland) Act 1995. The 8th Edition is due to be published in 2021.
Gabby is a dual UK and South African citizen, having moved to Edinburgh in 2016. During her undergraduate degree, Gabby was selected to be a part of the Freedom of Expression Legal Clinic and worked alongside practicing advocates on international casework and drafting submissions to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention for a year. She was published in the Edinburgh Student Law Review in 2020, writing on the unique challenges to children’s digital rights in the 21st century.
Gabby tutors on the undergraduate Family Law LLB course at the University of Edinburgh and is also a member of the Scottish Young Lawyers Association.
